Rum Sugar Cookies - oh yeah! October 23 2012

The Rum Sugar is in and we have been whipping up some yummies. The rum flavor is subtle which is perfect for adding just a touch of spark to any recipe. And since we love rum around these parts, I left the extract in the cabinet and pulled out the Kraken. Kraken is our go to rum and if you haven't tried it yet—run don't walk to the liquor store.

Dutch's Favorite Rum Sugar Cookies
1 3/8 cups     flour
3/4 tsp       baking  soda
1/8 tsp       baking powder
1/4 tsp       salt
1/2 cup      butter, softened
3/4 cup      sugar
1 tsp           Kraken Rum
1                 egg
Old Salt Merchants Rum Runner Sugar


Preheat oven to 350º. Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside. Beat together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and Kraken rum. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and roll in Rum Sugar. Place on parchment lined cookie sheets approximately 1 1/2 inches apart. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.   From this:
