Perfect Biscuit / Scones Recipe

The art of baking is something for ALL ages.  The process of whisking, rolling, kneading, and forming the dough can be a very cathartic experience.  Invite your kids into the kitchen to teach them how to make these easy biscuits/scones with Old Salt Merchants Sweet Onion Sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 all-purpose flour or Gluten-free Cup 4 Cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Old Salt Merchants Bolivian Salt  
  • 8 tablespoons (or one stick) of cold unsalted butter (cut up) 
  • 1/4 cup Old Salt Merchants Sweet Onion Sugar   
  • 2/3 cup milk or buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees 
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl
  3. Add the cut-up butter and rub with your clean fingers (the kids will love doing this) or you can use pastry blender until the mixture looks like fine crumbs 
  4. Add the sugar and toss to mix
  5. Add the milk and stir with a wooden spoon until the dough forms (the dough might be a bit crumbly)
  6. Lay the dough out on a floured surface and knead gently until the dough comes together in a ball
  7. Pat or roll into a circle about 1 1/2 inch thick 
  8. Use a glass cup to form round shapes or roll into circles or wedges
  9. Place the circles on a lined baking tray or greased cookie sheet and sprinkle a little flour 
  10. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes 
  11. Sprinkle with Old Salt Merchants Sweet Onion Sugar, Cinnamon Sugar, Espresso Sugar, Lime Sugar, Lavender salt, Matcha salt --- the sky is the limit! Have fun making and baking, friends.
